Film finale - which killer was it based on?

I saw the film from a quarter way in last night and am left puzzled by the showdown scene at the end. Which killer was the scene modelled on? I was expecting a Berkowitz re-enactment but that clearly wasn't what happened, with Weaver strung up and the cop splayed out on the floor. Perhaps it was from the capture of the fictitous Connick psycho in the film? Anyone?

It was the recreation of the way Connick's character attempted to kill Weaver at the beginning of the film. Just after she'd given a serial killer lecture - and was wearing that red dress - she headed to the toilet with her two bodyguard cops, Connick was in one of the cubicles, killed one of the cops, left Weaver hanging - but the other cop prevented him completing the job.

Thanks neil! I'll catch the film from the start next time it airs on TV.

It was a combination of what Neil said and also Jack the Ripper, because the killer mentioned him in his speech before he went after Helen. I think he was going to disembowl her like one of Jack's victims.

not jack the ripper. it was a mix of Bundy and Cullum. Bundy had killed three women in a nite. there was then the one woman in the killers house. Then he tried for Monahan and Helen.

btw, jack the ripper only killed prostitutes

check near thee end of the movie, it says which killers it what order.

Jack the Ripper had nothing to do with it.

He's was attempting to re=enact (and complete) the murder and attempted murder that the Harry Connick character was trying to do.

The Harry Connick character was not a copycat killer.

So the "copycat" was trying to re-enact what he did. By completing the re-enactment and actually murdering Weaver's character he would not only have emulated his hero (the HC character) but actually gone one step further, making him in his eyes a more famous serial killer.

Yeah but Bundy never killed women that way. He never blew up a house or shot anyone. I don't think he got a chance to do a Bundy so he just started killing his own way towards the end.

It only had to do with Connick's character. He was copying what he did to Helen at the start of the flick. He made her wear the same red dress she wore when it happened too.

I think it was still a combination of Darryl Lee and Ted Bundy. Bundy was the last name from the lecture and the guy was trying to kill 3 people in one night and also copy Darryl Lee's attempt on Hudson. He kills 2, the cop outside Helen's apartment and the woman in the house, and he tells Hudson he'll let Monihan live: "The other cop is collecting his pension and so will she, unless you warn her...". So I think he was planning on only killing Hudson until MJ attacked him or else if he had completed, he would have had his threesome, which was also in the note and song to the police.
