The best part of this movie...

I think this movie excels in so many ways. The acting is top-notch, the story is taut and suspenseful, and the murders are downright horrifying. The soundtrack is particularly effective. But the best part of this film has to be the directing. The camera work in this movie is some of the best I've ever seen.

What do you think?

I completely agree with the above poster... it is one of the best horror/thriller movies i've ever seen. I remember watching it the 1st time it came out and it scared the hell out of me. Its so exhilarating that i absolutely had to buy the DVD, and even today, it gives me the chills !!
I love this movie, it delivers everything... suspense, drama, excitement !! IMO all the actors did a fabulous job in this movie and the direction was definitely one of its highest point !!

Scream came out right as this film did, and I believe Copycat is WAY better than Scream. They even had scores that were somewhat the same.

I just absolutely love the opening sequence in this film. H.C.Jr. was terrifying delivering that line "Should I stick 'em or shoot 'em? Stick 'em, shoot 'em, stick 'em, shoot 'em.. heh... Well I can't decide, but I think I'm gunna go on and do both." then followed by the look on his face when he licks the knife and says "you and me gunna have a lil' fun."

Actually, Copycat was released in October 1995, and Scream 14 months later in December 1996.

Agree, this movie is excellent. Sigourney, Holly, Dermott, Will and Harry are all top-notch here. The script, directing, cinematography, editing, everything, especially Christopher Young's eerie haunting score. I think Young really excels when he does thrillers like this; his work in Jennifer 8, The Gift, Runaway Jury and The Grudge, just to name a few, are incredible.

But everytime I see Copycat I can't stop watching and have to watch it all the way through. For me it's one of those movies I could watch over and over again. Wish I'd seen it in theatres!

I saw this in the theater and it was fantastic

I have to agree that it's an excellent thriller. What really gets me is Harry Connick Jr. as a killer. No matter what I see him in, whether it's a comedy or as himself, all I can think of is his role as a weirdo in this movie.

great flic...it doesn't go over the top with the gore and instead plays up the intelligent and psychological aspect to the crime; to the films benefit

also, h.hunter nails that role of a good inspector perfectly...always a pleasure to see great acting period and hunter does superbly here

This movie is fantastic! The best horror/thriller I've ever seen I think!
And it has Sigourney Weaver AND Holly Hunter in it, even better!
I couldn't stop watching and now I am going to buy the DVD.

I saw this in the movie theater back in 95' and just thought I had witnessed the most gripping thriller EVER. Even today I say "It was really good...but it just didn't get to Copycat good".

The scene when Helen thinks that she's alone in her apartment and tests the phone and finds out that it's dead.....there's a pause and she slowly looks up...and sees a masked figure on the second floor exit the frame...she starts to react right before the cut to the figure upstairs..and right when you hear Christopher Young's musical cue...you know which one I mean?

My mouth was just as open as Helen's when it cut back to her.

The best part of this movie for me, or at least the most unexpected part, was when Helen gets a knock at the door, looks through the peephole, sees two policemen chatting/laughing and then opens it... only to see that one of the cops is the killer. He turn around wearing a fake mustache and immediately slashes the throat of the other cop while smiling. It all happens so fast that it caught me by surprise, I thought the build-up was still happening and that the cops were gonna say something about a prowler and that she should be careful, at which point she'd go back in the house and the murderer would be waiting inside somewhere. Yet he was actually in the corridor casually having a chit chat with the policeman he's about to slay viciously. Brutal stuff.
