VERY unrealistic

i understand that she was agoraphobic, but in reality...would she REALLY go back into the apartment with the serial killer instead of just making a blind run for it?? That seems ridiculous...also, at the end when he hangs her in the bathroom, how does she manage to hang there for nearly 20 minutes while staying alive and concious?

She hung there because unless you fit the noose to a neck, there's no way to tell it is tight or lose enough, in theory (though I doubt it happens often) if the noose was just loose enough to open the airway, but not so loose that her neck would break instantly she could hang there untill she just gave up.

she was able to hang there for that amount of time because she was standing on the toliet seat balancing her heel, and thats why she kicks it off and tries to hang herself when hes about to cut the officers throat

She kicked the shoe off to make the situation different. He needed everything to be exactly the same and she didn't do that the first time.

I can tell you as someone who is agoraphobic that it is entirely possible that she would have gone back into the the apartment instead of making a blind run for it- considering how long she was housebound, I would have been surprised if she -didn't- go back into the apartment. I'm sure it seems ridiculous to you because you don't know much about agoraphobia, but any psychologist or agoraphobic would have not been surprised at all that she did that.

Clearly you've never suffered with, or known anyone that does suffer with agorophobia, if you did you'd know that even a serial killer isn't as scary as leaving your house if you were in that situation and given the severity of her condition, then she's better off in the house, at least she's conscious which tends to help when fighting someone for your life.

That would be something good to hope for but the fact that she'd had the condition for so very long makes it impossible. It is like asking a epileptic to not have seizures the first day they take medication. No one could just snap out of a condition of that magnitude, it would be a situation that would take time to wean her off of her fears, whatever they may be that causes her to have the agoraphobia that she has.

This is an old post but I hope the reader comes back to look at the answers because she never responded.

Phobias are irrational and they effect your everyday life. They are not just really being scared- actually agorophobia is about that-the fact that they have an anxiety attack, inabity to breath, faintness etc when they leave the house-its not just leaving the house.
When she left the apartment the camera was swirling not just to give a cool effect! It was to show you how she was seeing everything. When she walked outside her agoraphobia made her have an attack and she was unable to walk correctly. Anxiety attacks can not be controlled. It was her first time trying-she had suffered something really traumatic that made her like that.

Also she was holding herself up by the shoe the whole time. When she dropped it, it wasn't time for her to die yet because that wasn't how the original killer did it. So the guy freaked out and tried to stop her from dying.

Okies.

1. Agoraphobia is classed as a self inflicted condition, by your consious, meaning that she gave that sevre to herself. She has been in that house for thirteen and a bit months, because she realised that every serial killer active was probably after her, you MUST understand the sheer terror agorpahiba's have of leaving the house and indeed coming into contact with numerous people.
The idea that she went back into the house even though their was a killer inside the house is one that can be wildley supported and acclaimed, because under the scruntiny of her own fears and irrational thoughts, she picked the lesser of two evil's, it may seem very ridiculous for you or me to estbalish what would be safer go into the house with a killer then to face the world outside, but to an agoraphobic, the killer seemed safer.

2. When someone is being hung, thier neck breaks...thats how they die. helen was raised NOT lowered as most people who are being hung are, this gives her an advantage as it makes it more difficult for her neck to break, hwoever it does strangle her, also if you notices she manages to get her fingers under the wire and provide herself with an air way, also the only reason she didn't choke straight away was because of her heels, the high heel she was wearing were supporting her, and stopping her from dying completely.

The thing I found unrealistic is the fact that she didn't have a gun. But then, she would have just shot the bastard and that would've been the end of the movie, *lol*.

She was about to faint in the corridor, which would've made her easy prey to the murderer. It made sense to go back, stay conscious and try to fight it.
