When the guy takes Rubin hostage (spoilers)

When I watched this film for like the 10th time, I realised that the scene when the Chinese guy kills Rubin makes no sense.

I mean, MJ shoots him, he's on the floor, caught. Theres no way he's going to escape.

So he shoots Rubin?

So now he's still caught, except he just killed a cop. That's not exactly gonna benefit him in the long run, huh?

reply

It would give him a tough image...street cred. Like he said, he was a juvinial (sorry about spelling)so his sentence would be short.

I can't understand why Rubin went for his ankle gun when the kid was going for the gun again, most cops would have turned around and kicked, punched or moved aside to let the parnter shoot again.

He wasn't going for his ankle holster, he was bending over to pick up the box of doughnuts. He had no idea the kid was going for the gun again. He bent over before MJ called out to warn him, then straightened up just as she called out and the kid fired the gun.

reply

If you watch carefully he was. He was stood up straight smiling at MJ. MJ noticed the kid going for the gun with his other hand and shouted Rubin, he glanced behind over his shoulder and then went for his ankle, all this suggests his ankle holster, the donut box was 3 ft to the left.

Yes, he was reaching for his gun, which was quite absurd... he didn't have time, he should have kicked the kid's gun or either move aside and let his partner shoot the kid (she was already pointing at the kid).

I know all the right answers but, they keep changing the questions.

My impression was that it didn't seem realistic to me. Maybe anyone with police training can expound on this but it seemed that once the suspect was shot, that time sort of stood still for a moment, everyone just kind of seem to stand there just waiting to see what happened next. I believe actual officers in that scenario would have mad rushed the suspect as soon as he was hit, he'd have three officers all over him, wrestling the gun away and cuffing him. He wouldn't have had time to decide to pick up the gun and shoot.
