Has anyone seen Congo?
Because I saw King Kong and I saw Kong go.
shareYes I saw it in the cinema when it was released. It was ok but definitely no WOW factor.
After Jurassic Park, Michael Crighton’s books were hot property back in the 90’s. I was hyped for Congo at the time but it didn’t have a fraction of Jurassic’s success. It’s not a great film, the book is better.
Both movies, Congo and Jurassic Park were juvenile, but I liked Congo better because it was slightly less Disney-ish, not so much aimed at kids. All the Jurassic Park movies have had that vibe like they are pandering to children and their fascination with dinosaurs, especially little boys. They are kids' movies.
shareMeanwhile the "speaking" gorilla in Congo was more aimed to - women?
shareLOL ... maybe post-pubescent women?
Seriously, it has been so long since I saw the movie, I don't remember at all any speaking gorillas? Is that right?
They have this device to convert Amy's sign language into speech.
I thought the voice was a little annoying, but women really love it. Must be a mother thing...
I saw it in theaters as it came out right after Jurassic Park and there was a rush to make movies from Michael Crichton novels. I remember not really liking it and haven't watched it since.
shareI watched it about a year ago. It's one of those films that is not really a "good" movie, but that, if your expectations are set correctly, you can watch and get some entertainment from.
The 90s had a lot of fun thrillers like this. Some worked well, some didn't. Another that came out around the same time that was fun but that seems to be largely forgotten now is Outbreak.
