The colobus monkeys

Whenever they start making a racket at night during the full moon, the two professors ask the great white (black) hunter what the noise is. Surely Elliot, who was a primatologist after all, would recognise the sound to be colobus monkeys? Minor nitpick to be true, and I love the film, but that bit just bothered me.

Why do you call him the great white/black hunter? Was he not supposed to have knowledge because he was black.....so you label him white also because he did?
Please clarify because you come off very ignorant/racist!

reply

The post is not racist. That was a line from the movie. Ernie Hudson's character said, " I'm your great white hunter so to speak, except I'm black." Apparently you haven't seen the movie.

I thought about that as well. It did seem strange.

Since primatologists usually focus on particular apes or monnkeys (Diane Fossey with gorillas, Jane Goodall with chimps), I assumed Elliot's speciality is gorillas without studying other primates.

reply

He doesn't know every species. It's obvious he's also never studied primates in their natural habitats.

Straightedge means I'm better than you.
