When I was 11...

When I was 11, I somehow managed to get into this PG-13(!) movie, and it was probably the greatest thing I had ever seen. I am about to rewatch it on Netflix online, and I have a sneaking suspicion that it will not live up to my memories. Will report findings later.

Let us know. I still enjoy this movie. It's not great. But it's great fun with a great cast that obviously enjoyed making it.

I think everybody has that one movie that they love that makes everyone else wonder what the hell is wrong with you.

Congo is that movie for me. I love it. I can recite it word-for-word. Saw it in theaters the weekend it opened and couldn't understand what the negative buzz was all about. Yeah, Amy sucked, but it had a lot more going for it than some talking gorilla. There's many memorable scenes, my favorite being, of course, STOP EATING MY SESAME CAKE. And Ernie Hudson was awesome in it. He invented his own accent for Christ's sake.

I'm with you, Revenge. Congo for me is the ultimate fun movie. I love it. I love the cast. I love the action. I love the costumes. The dialogue. It's great. It's just a pure fun movie. Hudson is definitely the best thing about Congo.

totally forgot about this post until just recently.

This movie will always have a special place in the nostalgia portion of my heart, but I can't defend it as a good movie on its own merits. The latter part of the movie just becomes ridiculous, not to say that the rest of it is non-ridiculous.

I'm pretty much in that same boat with you. Was 13 when I first saw this and loved it, but hadn't really seen it since. Saw it on Netflix and watched last night, and, well.., there are sure alot of things you don't notice while you're a child. Acting and dialogue for starters.

This movie is the G.O.A.T!!! Man, I still remember seeing this in theaters when I was 9, probably the most memorable movie experience for me after Jurassic Park.

I saw King Kong vs. Godzilla one night after watching the rasslin on tv. I was about 8 yo, I believe. It was soooo awesome and soooo realistic and soooo dramatic and exciting and compelling and...blahblah. My young mind interpreted this stellar epic that my mature mind would later say...wha'? Yes, 10-15 years afterwards I saw KKvG in a tv listing and was giddy...but then as I watched more & more, it became obvious that maturity had robbed me of true awe and replaced it with cynical logic.

I was good and old (30+) when I first saw Congo, liked it, and it still holds up with repeated viewings as far as I'm concerned. Maybe if I saw it with my 8 yo mind, I'd be as disappointed and/or butthurt as the negative posters on this board in my elder years.

I was the same age (11) when this came out, but the movie was a little too silly for my taste. I was expecting the next Jurassic Park and was sadly disappointed (especially since JP sparked an affinity for Crichton's novels). Watching it now at 30, I can appreciate it as the silly little b-flick it was meant to be. It's not quite Tremors-quality, but it almost gets there.
