Cher's occasional moments of intelligence

The thing that separates Clueless from a league of other teen films and rom-com girl power flicks today is that it doesn't lampoon or poke fun at the heroine's intelligence. Cher isn't just a one-note ditz, she has occasional moments of very thoughtful and witty clarity, she seems to be quite a smart girl ("I thought they declared peace in the Middle East", among other things, surprised me). There are layers to her that the film touches upon that suggest she has the potential to be extraordinarily gifted. I really applaud Amy Heckerling for this. I think this is what elevates Clueless above the usual teen fare. It knows that its characters have redeeming qualities and it knows that their drive for ambition and reward extends far beyond the local shopping mall.

Fashion requires some minimal intelligence; so any girl who can dress well has some smarts.

For a 16 year old, she had a well rounded vocabulary, understands things and learns. Cher is someone who could learn all about whatever if she wanted to.

There were plenty of moments in the movie when I would hear Cher say or do something a normal 16 year old girl wouldn't be astute enough to collaborate.

A person hates you because they either wanna be you, see you as a threat, or hate themself

Cher was by no means a stupid girl, she just chose to focus her potential into things like fashion and The Real World. if she applied herself, like Josh and her father pushed her to do, she wouldn't have to argue for A's, she would be able to earn them

I do love how she called out that college girl for misquoting Hamlet though!

No way Bells is bigger than Waimea, bro.
