Cher's outfits, on the whole...

I know, I know, another fashion related thread!

Having seen the film God knows how many times since I first watched it in 1997, I can't believe it took me 'til now to realise this. Cher's outfits throughout the film, on the whole, are actually quite simple and in some cases, almost timeless - i.e. not completely "OMG, 90s!!!"

When most people think of the clothes in "Clueless" I get the feeling things like the bright yellow plaid school oufit, Dionne's Dr. Seuss hat, etc. are largely what comes to mind. But I'd never really paid close attention to Cher's wardrobe (after all, she is the lead character) to realise that actually, her outfits were much simpler than her character or the 90s fashion would suggest.

Some examples: the white Calvin Klein dress when she goes out with Christian, the red Alaïa dress at the Valley party, white shirt/black skirt ensemble driving with Josh, white T-shirt/denim skirt outfit when she sees Christian for the first time... I'm realising now I should've made a list the last time I watched it because that's a small list from the 60 or so outfits she goes through in the film, but I hope it conveys what I'm saying haha!

"Oh, my, where are my manners? Would either of you homicidal maniacs like some sweet tea?"

I love her outfits in the film. I wish I could have all of them. The only one I think I don't like is the yellow plaid skirt and jacket combo. I love the red dress and jacket from the Val party.

she did go towards the more classic of styles, sometimes disguised by a gaudy print, but i think you're right, some of her outfits have stood the test of time

Carrie in sex and the city totally wore the button up shirt under a sweater look.
