I remember it being filmed at my school!
The movie was shot in various locations in Kilkenny where i am from and it was the first time that a movie was shot almost entirely on location. Kilkenny City double d for Dublin in various shots, Inistioge (which is so picturesque that virtually nothing needed to be done to make it resemble a 1950's villiage...it just has that vintage charm) was the loaction for the villiage scenes while Thomastown was used for other exterior shots.
My School, St Kierans College was used for the Exterior scenes at Trinity College (notably the rugby game) and also for the convent scenes (when Eve is is handing out dinner to the nuns, it is actually the student dining hall). The filming of the rugby game took all day to shoot and during our lunch break we were able to watch from the sidelines as the same shot was filmed over and over again. Chris o'Donnell looked drained running around with a rubgy ball that day. Also if you watch the scene closely, when Benny is watching from the sideline, one of my class m8's is standing behind her as he was picked to be an extra. Everyone wanted to see Chris because he was the big name. Nobody knew who Minnie Driver was!
It was such a big deal for Kilkenny to get a movie filmed here, especially one that has become such a timeless classic.
