I was really surprised, because I'd rented it several times from them, to find they no longer have it. Considering they have a lot of even more obscure movies from farther back. I mean, I should have bought it anyway and will now get it from Amazon or eBay or somewhere, but it was just suprising.

By letting the original release (VHS, Laserdisc, DVD) go out of print, then slowing removing it from rentable outlets, followed by airing it a few obscure times on one pay movie channel, people start to want it again. Time for an expensive special edition!
It could probably happen, especially since Focus Features has started to re-release the films of Savoy Pictures, who released this in theaters in '95, onto DVD. So far, Serial Mom (Another film from Savoy Pictures) has been released on DVD by Focus, so maybe this will be sooner or later.
By the way, I liked this movie. It's probably my feel-good film. 8.5/10.
