My husband has the idea in his head that this is a remake of an old black and white film. Anyone know?

He may be thinking of the old b&w film "Freaks", but that movie has no relation to this one. Indeed, I believe this is the only full-length adaptation of H P Lovecraft's "Outsider" ever done.

Maybe he was thinking of The Maze (1953), or The Strange Door (1956), or I Walked With A Zombie (1943; the Jane Eyre-mad first wife locked up in the attic) ?
