....or was cgi or a body double at work here?....because it couldnt have setup a good example for the little girl.
It's just acting, and the girl knew that. It's different being in a set where an actress pretends doing drugs to actually having your mother snorting coke for real.

shareIn my opinion, movies like this one do totally the opposite. Ginger looks like a person who has ruined her life thanks to alcohol and drugs, is a horrible mother, a very greedy person, cannot let go that pimp. So having such a bad and ridiculous person doing drugs wouldn't make the girl think "Wow, this character is so cool because she does drugs, such a great person does drugs, I should too!" Instead, she's watching the example of what drugs can do to someone.
Same thing goes for movies like Trainspotting. Adults fear that if their sons or daughters watch those movies, they're going to want to try drugs. But it's totally the opposite, you see people ruining their lifes and harming themselves, thaat doesn't make you curious about drugs.
Finally, I can't imagine Scorsesse bringing a double or doing some cgi work just to avoid setting a bad example to the girl.

shareI have no idea about the kid in the movie but some parents actually talk to their kids about what they see, what they hear, and what is right and what is wrong. They don't hide lifes truths but use them as an opportunity to teach their kids. It's called parenting.

shareI'm certain that Sharon didn't actually snort real coke. It was probably milk sugar like in Scarface. I don't think movies or television shows influence people that much. Ginger was not a good wife or mother. She was in it for the cash and for sex with anyone who would plow her. (I would have used a stronger word there but I am not sure about the format regarding profanity).

Yes, Sharon Stone was ACTING the part of a bad mother, but more importantly Erika von Tagen was ACTING the part of a disappointed daughter.
Amy (the character) wasn't showing anything but disgust for Ginger (the character). Why would Erika (the actor), even at that age, think that Ginger (the character) was cool when Erika's own character, Amy, didn't think Ginger was cool?
In other words, EVERYONE involved knew that Ginger was a loser, not worthy of imitation, including and especially the actor playing the daughter. She couldn't have played the part effectively if she didn't hate Ginger's behavior.
