Why did Bragdon want to kill the kids?? HE had a happy tone of voice when he told palmer when he is done with killing MAx, make sure he kills the kids.

The kids would be witnesses to the fact Max was supposedly taken into FBI custody, which, of course, is a lie - Palmer took him off to kill him, not arrest him.
Palmer's version of events would likely be that he had to shoot Max while Max was fleeing. The kids' version would be that Max had already been taken away at gunpoint.
If they talked, questions would be asked regarding what Palmer did with Max after he was out of sight of the children, so it was wisest to just off the lot of them (and probably Erickson, too, provided Palmer told Bragdon about him).
