The Sequel is Better!
one of the few comedies where the sequel surpasses the original. i think the first kind of took itself seriously, where the second they were making fun of themselves and it was more fun overall.

Are we watching the same film? The sequel is lighter and fluffier? A Brother & sister with a nearly incestuous relationship is lighter than the original which was 'cynical' according to you. The fact that the two actors had a sort of thing going on off screen and incorporating that into borderline incest is the ultimate in cynicism. A lot would say it overstepped the mark. And all of the Brady's were portrayed much dumber in the sequel. The first was much better.
shareThere was no incestuous relationship how could there be they were not related by blood only marriage it was perfectly alright.
shareSo why were they constantly feeling like they were doing something wrong if it was 'perfectly alright'?
shareWell if you grew up with someone who you were not related to but have always seen them as a brother/sister you would probably feel it was wrong as well. But this whole notion of it being incest is just plain stupid. So it was perfectly alright. Infact i would'nt have been bothered if they had got Greg and Marcia together at the end.
shareGreg and Marcia's reasoning for hooking up was ridiculous in itself. They figured since Roy was still married to Carol, that canceled her marriage to Mike out. Meaning they weren't even legally brother and sister.

I thought it would be incestous but like someone else said borderline incestous since I've always thought that Mike adopted the girls hence why their last name is Brady.
I speak my mind and if you don't like it then that's just too damn bad!!!

I agree the constant sexual tension between Marcia and Greg was funny, and Tim Matheson going nuts with the idiots around him.
shareThough I love the first movie, I agree the sequel topped it. In the first movie, there was a lot more of the Brady kids' peers being cynical and somewhat mean. I could see where one might say it was actually a depressing reminder of how much more grim the world has gotten nowadays.
I think what made the sequel better was simply that the situation with Roy was so great. Here's this slimy, conniving guy continually being driven crazy by having to live with these straight-laced Brady's. There were so many things Roy said that had double meanings, so many time he was incredulous at the Brady's behavior. There was so much opportunity for comedic moments.
By contrast, in the first movie Mr. Dittmeyer was a good villain, but he can't compare to Roy. Plus, in my opinion Mrs. Dittmeyer added very little to the movie. So she was always drunk and flirty. OK, I get it. But I didn't see much unique humor created by her presence.
I gotta agree too! I watched them both back to back and I love the sequel so much more and laughed so much harder than I did with the first. I do love the first, but this is one time where the sequel did outdo the first film.
I'm watching an old episode of The Brady Bunch, it's the one where Jan has a problem.
I'll have to respectably disagree. Both movies were great but the first one was hilarious to me! And sorry, but I don't think either movie took themselves seriously. They both were clearly making fun of the original Brady Bunch. i just rewatched this and I forgot how clever and funny these movies were.
Be Young. Be Dope. Be Proud.
I think the sequel is almost as good as the original.
