First time I saw Babe

I was in high school. I wanted to see The Rock. My girlfriend would only go with me to The Rock if I agreed to go with her to see some pig movie, and I reluctantly agreed. Well, take a wild guess which one I liked better. I remember at the end of Babe I wanted to stand up and cheer. I'm 33 years old now, and it's still one of my top 10 all-time favorites. I wonder how many other guys out there got roped into seeing it the same way I did?

I chose to get roped, but not by a date. I had just graduated from film school, and was working in a big electronics store. Babe had just won the Golden Globe, and NY film critics award, and the store started playing the Babe DVD on the jumbo screen. I went WTF, and rented it that night to see what the fuss was about for a talking pig movie.

After studying Bergman, Hitchcock, and Kurasowa films, this blew them all away. I had never seen such an inventive film. Its actually a grown-up film thats good for kids also. I've watched it about nine times since then, and have recognized about nine different themes that run though it, in a story about a nice little pig.

When I went to work the next day, it was still on the jumbo screen, and I told my co-workers that it was the best fracking movie there is. They looked at me in bewilderment... a talking pig flick?
