You should check on Pete Conrad's love for pranks. It'll change your view on astronauts as stiff nerds.

I was talking about Hanks overall persona of being someone who seems ready to fly off the handle at any time.

I'm sure they were all anything but stiff nerds. I'm sure many if not most of them were cocky jerks, not stiff nerds.

I thought he based his performance because those nuances were all legit? Idk, I'm watching soon on Amazon so I'll have to see if it's something I just never noticed before. Haven't watched it in years

I think he's great and very multi talented. I'm sure can pull off any role he takes.

You mean Hanks as an actor? Obviously he's a great actor and much beloved and deservedly so. I've seen him in too many good performances and I thought his portrayal of Jim Lovell was spot on and authentically believable. Great film and great acting all around.

Are you kidding? He was the calm one out of the three and even Lovell's wife said it was a totally accurate performance and you can't get much better than that.

A response that's historically ignorant and not supported by those that knew Lovell. He nailed the role with precision as Jim Lovell's wife would know best. I guess that made Lovell "too goofy and high-strung" to be an astronaut too .
