If the 'cheesiness' kept you...
... from giving this movie a higher rating then simply filter-out the "cheesy" moments and reevaluate how good this movie is.
It seems that IMDB viewers who explain their reasons for giving this film anything less than an 8.5, do so because it's too "cheesy". C'mon - it's Ron Howard... a master at portraying and stirring human emotion in his movies. If it wasn't for this particular attribute of his style, which some viewers just can't or won't accept, would the movie get higher ratings?
The funny thing is, is that it's the "cheesy" moments (i.e., those emotional scenes accompanied by emotional music) that either put a smile on your face or a tear in your eye. The only other way to achieve those reactions outside of the movie would be to have been there in real life.
And since that wasn't possible for a lot of us, then THANK YOU, Ron Howard, for the cheesy moments!! In this viewer's humble opinion, they only enhanced an already superb movie.
