Good movie but I feel the future is bleak for Pres Shepard

I really liked this 90s movie back then as well because it has the Sleepless in Seattle, You've Got Mail etc. type feel to it. Meg Ryan would've worked really well as well here but Annette Benning did amazing and is her best performance to date (not including the "Yes your majesty" scene in American Beauty).

Their chemistry is unmistakable and Michael Douglas feels like the President. His manner and demeanor are all sublime and well acted.

However, while I agree that guns are the problem, what we need is a repeal of the 2nd amendment. There's no need for that in today's society. There's NO way any armed militia of any size could just take over the govt and that is actually bad too. There's no govt that can't crush such a militia and loads of people will die. No militia can fly F16s etc. so a couple of F16s will just bomb them out of existence.

Guns are meant to kill. That is their only primary purpose as opposed to vehicles or knives or such. This is why guns need to be eliminated. Want to still fire it? Fine. Go to a gun range. Make us all safer this way.

With over 400 mass murders every year here, it is time to amend the constitution which should be a living breathing doc of amendments and not a crazy written in stone book like the outdated Bible or any other religious book no one really lives by really.

However, I feel in the context of this movie -

* Andrew Sheppard asked for 20% reduction in fossil fuel emissions by next 10 years. That is tough and would likely cause some unemployment unless alternate clean fuel sources are available. Today it could kinda happen if Tesla Solar and others take off. I mean no one wants to work in polluting coal or oil affecting their health when they could get better health conditions and money working in a future cool tech. However, this means, the people won't vote for Andrew Sheppard and the GOP like Rumson will talk their rubbish through the evil propaganda channels like Fox/OAN/Newsmax making lot of people anti Sheppard

* Andrew Sheppard asked for guns with a new crime bill. That requires a constitutional amendment if he wants to repeal which is a very tall ask unless one party controls the WH/Senate/House with 75% control and 75% control in state legislatures. It's doable but needs a lot but imo given today, Andrew Sheppard would lose on this point.

Overall, I love this movie for what it is - a simple movie with a Pres having a love affair with a lobbyist girl and that's pretty much it. There's really not much to this story other than to show the WH and some stuff around it and how things work. Just basic stuff type movie. The plot is not much as well - guy gets the girl and fights back.

Still, acting was really good with Michael Douglas and Annette Benning and rest.

Rating: 8/10
