We drop 5 points + Minnesota doesn't make the Rose Bowl?

I don't understand what Michael Douglas meant by This when playing pool with A.J. and discussing what would happen if he dated. Can anyone explain this.

reply

It was hyperbole. He was saying that the drop in points would be his positive ratings as president, "like, ok, so I start dating and my "favorable profile" goes down" and the remark about Minnesota was, "right, that'll be the worst thing that happens". That's all.

Ya, it was "I drop 5 points when Wisconsin doesn't make it to the rose bowl."

What was being said in this scene was: Anything that happens could make the president's rating drop or raise.

If the rating is taken after a showing of a John Wayne film where America "Wins the War" then the rating goes up a point or two, if it's taken in the middle of a flu outbreak, it goes down.

All he is saying is that 5 points is nothing, especially since he was in the 60s already.
