sharePretty much every candidate who has a family member criticized says stick with me they're off limits. It's not too unique to this film to say that the criticized person is classier than the critic but I could see that Cruz might have been inspired, unconsciously remembered the particular wording from the film.

I think it's more likely that he watched the film and distantly remembered a line, though he also could have come up with it on its own, rather than that he watched it often and recently enough to have memorized the film or that he loved the line and kept it in mind for when he would want to use it himself.
@AndrewGS Just to clarify, I was replying in the manner of Donald Trump, seeing as he knocked out Cruz in Indiana.
