WHY ?? Annette Benning???

something that always puzzled me... not very attractive... her sister .... nina siemzsacko ... gorgeous... heck even sydney's co worker wendi is gorgeous.... other than that point... a real good movie

reply

I think she's attractive and she's a good actress .

I think she is pretty. I could see Julianne Moore in this role, but the chemistry with Michael may have been different. Terrific film! I saw it 5-6 times.

reply

I find Annette WAY more attractive than the sister and Wendy Malick.

It's almost like people can have different opinions on looks - but that can't be possible, can it?

reply

I didn't realize how beautiful she is until I watched this movie.

So it goes.

Annette kills all of the other three main female characters looks wise, to each their own I guess.

reply

Annette was perfect for the role. The director/producer made a good choice. She's good looking and an amazing actor.

reply

I've seen this movie at least a dozen times and can't imagine any other actress in the role.
Oh, and she hooked the ever sexy Warren Beatty, so that says something.

reply

Maybe it was just this movie because Bening was playing a rather plain woman, but I've found her incredibly attractive in many of her other films, especially The Grifters and Open Range.

Bening was playing a rather plain woman ...
I don't think that is necessarily true, but I think the point is repeatedly reinforced that the President is attracted to her as a smart, intelligent mature woman, rather than someone who is just a stunner. For instance he is really impressed when she breaks the ice with the French couple, through her ability to be fluent in French.🐭

I thought she was an excellent choice and nailed the role. I like both Nina Siemaszko (despite my difficulty spelling her name) and Wendie Malick (ever since the days of Dream On) and it's always good to see Anna Deavere Smith, but the lead belonged to Annette Being.

reply

Benning was actually at her best looking in the mid-90s.

reply

In her first scene with the meeting with Martin Sheen, I might have agreed. But, when she did her hair and the blue dress she wore to the formal White House dinner, that was it! Annette Bening found her look and never looked back. Annette was very attractive in this movie.

reply

Yes she was an elegant and intelligent beauty.
