SO different to the first one in terms of tone.
I saw this again for the first time since I can even remember and as someone who has watched the original MANY many times two things really jumped out at me
1) this movie is way funnier than I remember
2) the style of comedy though is very different to the original.... except perhaps for Jim Carrey's performance which is pretty much faithful to the Ace in the first movie.
The first film is zany and loopy to a point but it's also a down and dirty 90s cop comedy/mystery built around a cartoon character. This film however is a freaking Warner Bros cartoon and Ace is basically its Bugs Bunny. Which is fine I guess, like said I enjoyed seeing this again and was surprised how funny it was but it's interesting how they went for a much broader tone this time around and went for it full hilt. My one problem with that is that they went overboard with the "gross" humour in this one. Ace Ventura Pet Detective didnt really have gross out gags really, just mild crude bits here and there. When Nature Calls however decided to go further with the juvenile stuff to match the cartoonish tone.
