Kray or Boyle?

Who did you think was better? I think Kray was slightly better and more suited to the part. Boyle had more respect for Grim but wasn't as funny as Kray. They're both great actors though. I bought the series on DVD recently and forgot how funny this comedy series was, there should have been more and it's so underrated.

Agree with you, Pauldaboi.

Was just about to start this topic as well.

I thought Kray was better.

reply

Kray was great - altogether, ever so slightly psychotic.
Boyle was good, but not in Kray's league...!

Didn't really rate Boyle all that much - he was either too neanderthal & gross, or too moody and menacing.

Kraye was much better proposition and fitted the role just perfectly

reply

Yeh, Kray was way better, and more funny.

I prefer Boyle, especially in Fly On the Wall

I love you

They both had their qualities...Boyle had the better lines though. Maybe just Mark Addy's (Boyle) delivery.

Grim: Fannying on about bloody isms. What ism ever robbed a bank? What ism ever pulled a gun on someone? What ism ever tried to blow something up?
Boyle: Terrorism?
Grim: OK, alright. Well, what ism ever threatened the security of the State?
Boyle: Marxism?
Grim (exasperated): What ism ever hurt an old lady?
Boyle: Sadism!

Kray was way better than Boyle

reply

Kray. Hands down. Shame he had to go

reply

Definitely Kray - sharper and more ironic.

Kray was better and funnier,Boyle wasn't very ethical.Grim and Kray were a bit inclinded to take advatage of their postion but they weren't crooked really Boyle was at least a couple of times and tried to pull the desperate and gullible Grim along with him.
The role called for a miminmalist approach and Kray could do that better he was good at undermining Grime with out really trying to Boyle only did that during Grim's ism speech.I think his best episode was The Green-Eyed Monster but overall I prefered Kray.

Why did they change actors?

It simply cannot be otherwise. He has tons of signature traits (constantly chewing something, giggling in that moronic manner, casting those startled gazes onto his boss, dressing like a student of the sport faculty, using those sarcastic jokes on everybody around him, hitting on young gals whenever possible, etc.) while DC Gary Boyle's major traits are just being vulgar, fat, and repellent. If I could, I would definitely skip all the scenes where Boyle opens his mouth or even his large face is shown on the screen. Nothing personal, Mr Mark Addy, quite possibly you are a great actor, but here you are out of place. Give me Mr Kevin Allen for the 2nd Season, damn it.

I bought this title on DVD too and the only considerable disappointment is the backstage laughter, which cannot be removed, and the only minor disappointment is DC Gary Boyle.

Kray was a better side kick than Boyle, Boyle was a little too much of a slob whereas Kray was always eating something and saying funnier things in short witty remarks.

Has to be Kray. I thought he was funny as hell.

IMO, Kray was the worst character on the show (the character, not the actor). He was totally one dimensional. Almost everything he said was smart-assed. There was nothing to him. Not sure what people find appealing about that.
