Transferring the Doctor

I'm watching Life Line and they talk about sending the doctor and losing him for a month. Why didn't they send a copy and keep the original onboard?

Yeah, well...

I guess we have to just go on faith that 23rd century computers are not simple binary code that can be infinitely copied.

That’s what makes aging SciFi shows funny at times. Our current technology can often do what there’s seems unable to do. But even back in the nineties they should have given a reason for something as basic as not being able to back up a program or send a copy, when they store and save holo programs that would be much more data than the doctor. Also they show there to be many mk 1’s working in the mines. They would all be copies.
