The producers of the show wanted Michael written out of the show. They wanted to bring more of a street feel to the show. That's how TK got written in. Robert Townsend had seen Tyrone Burton in this low budget movie called "Squeeze". Tyrone played a young street wise kid in the film. Robert loved his performance and he was hired to play the role of TK. And the show did get higher ratings with TK. So it proved to be a good move by the producers.

I'm a year late, but I think you're talking about Shyheim Franklin. He played Skye for a few episodes and he was a rapper, in real life and on the show I think.
