Actually quite creepy for a kid's show

I grew up watching Goosebumps. My favorite episodes were Fever Swamp, Werewolf Skin, Night of the Living Dummy, The Haunted Mask, and Horrorland.

But just recently, since I got Netflix; for nostalgia purposes, I decided to revisit some of my favorite episodes. And I must say, for a kid's show, some of the episodes were downright creepy. Coming from an adult's perspective, I'm now able to pick up on certain subtle details that I never noticed as a kid. For example: at the end of the Horrorland episode, the entire family is basically murdered.

And by the way, now I recognize the Canadian accents in all the episodes.

About a year ago, upon a friend's suggestion, I watched a few episodes of both Goosebumps and Are You Afraid of the Dark. I had read a few of the books as a kid, but never did spend much time with either show and just wanted to see what I missed out on.

Honestly, I found Goosebumps to be more goofy than creepy. That is, except for the pilot episode: The Haunted Mask.

The Haunted Mask was very well-made and genuinely creepy. Even as an adult I found it genuinely unsettling. It's a shame that, as far as I can tell, the show never did really live up to the potential demonstrated in that one episode.
