This Movie Should Be.....
Talked about a whole lot more
Classic in my opinion
TOMBSTONE WAS THE SUPERIOR FILM AND THUS PUSHED THIS ONE INTO THE SHADOWS OF TIME.
shareActually, I’m a Wyatt historian and Tombstone was a soap opera version of the story with a ton of inaccuracies
Wyatt Earp was the better film and story
Tombstone was just as if Michael Bay directed it
I CAN APPRECIATE THAT...COUNTERPOINT...VAL KILMER AS DOC HOLLIDAY
shareHe played a comedic Doc but Dennis Quaid nailed the role
Read any book and newspaper articles on Doc and you see Quaid
I KNOW THE HISTORY WELL ENOUGH NOT TO ARGUE WHICH MOVIE IS MORE ACCURATE...PERSONALLY FILM WISE....I THINK TOMBSTONE KICKS WYATT EARPS ASS ALL DAY EVERYDAY.
shareWell ok, but like I said more of a Michael Bay kind of movie
I enjoy the slow burn of realism of the west and accurate history
I like that they showed Wyatt's evolution as a man. He wasn't the ultimate bad ass when he was younger and got his ass kicked and bullied. It was those experiences that helped him learn about human nature and the wits, weaknesses, and character of man in general. "Tombstone" just opens up with introducing Wyatt in the same manner as a classic John Wayne vehicle with no backstory.
shareKilmer's portrayal was spirited and enjoyable but on a whole very inaccurate and heavily romanticized.
shareI like your analysis
shareLOL, thanks, but there wasn't much to it. I guess I don't buy into the hype by fanboys who always lament that Kilmer didn't win an Oscar for this role. As I said, he's highly entertaining and easy to like as Doc Holliday but there's not much to work with in this role. Kilmer was more animated and had more range in "Real Genius" imho, but nobody really talks about that role or even that movie all that much here. All the attention goes to John Hughes movies, Back to the Future, or the Karate Kid
shareinteresting
shareI agree that Tombstone is superior. It is a tremendously entertaining film and one of the most enjoyable westerns ever made.
At the same time, however, I can appreciate Wyatt Earp's epic nature and the effort that Costner put into it, and I think it's a good, under-appreciated film.
