Similar to the 'Twilight' series?

It's not that I'm into "Twilight" or anything, but I can't help but notice how much in common it has with this movie. For example:

1.) The heroines are very passive, reckless, and constantly depressed for no real reason. They also take advantage of their ability to attract men (of different species, that is).

2.) They both have boyfriends that sparkle.

3.) Both these stories are implied to have beastiality. Jacob is a werewolf who obviously has the hots for Bella, whereas a toad, a beetle, and mole all had the hots for Thumbelina.

4.) The target audience for these stories are usually girls (and occasionally creepy middle-aged women...in the case of "Twilight").

This might be just a coincidence, but I kind of feel like "Thumbelina" is the 90's version of "Twilight" (either that, or I'm slowly going insane)! o_0

"Cornelius sparkles?"

Well, he IS a fairy. :)

I like it. I'll add something - when Belle/Thumbelina is inaugerated into the Prince/Edward's tribe she physically transforms. Belle becomes a vampire and Thumbelina becomes a fairy.

Also, both are isolated loners. Thumbelina because of her size, Belle because she's a newcomer (among other reasons.)

Also like the implied beastiality - which raises the issue of the girls being the prize fought over by two groups - vampires/werewolves, fairies/forest creatures.

As bad as this movie is, comparing it to Twilight is just evil.

Eh, opposite way around. Thumbelina was made before Twilight was even invented so Twilight would be based off Thumbelina.

1. Yeah, seems legit.

2. One of them is at least supposed to sparkle, being a fairy. Once again, rather legit though.

3. Not sure you can really call it bestiality on Twilight's part, seeing as Jacob is a human most of the time. Bella and Jacob aren't exactly going to be having kinky werewolf (or shape-shifter, I prefer to use the proper term) sex.

4. This would sound reasonable if Twilight didn't also have male readers and viewers (there are ones that aren't the stereotypical 'gay' Twilight fan, you know). Also Thumbelina has creepy, middle-aged women fans? I call it holding onto your childhood more than anything.

Some of the points are legit, but my way of thinking made them not seem so similar to me.

Also got to say, I'm not sure where Thumbelina is 'reckless' in all this. She's no cliff-diving-to-see-Edward Bella.
