Aliens disguised as humans

I watched bits and pieces of this on Pluto the last couple of days and watched all of The Arrival (the Charlie Sheen one) today.

Both movies have aliens who disguise themselves as humans. They look different underneath, but on the surface appear human. I never quite understood that. How do you change your appearance to look like another species?

Well in the case of this movie Ra used the boy's body as a shell and put his essence into it. Physically or just mentally is not clear.

We see Ra in his natural state. He resembles a somewhat stereotypical depiction of aliens. How does one being wear a human as a shell?

reply

They described him as a parasite.

I know. Daniel says it. Parasites are small organisms that latch onto bigger ones. These things are approximately the same size as a human. That's not possible. Plus, when Ra is about to die, he suddenly looks like his natural form again. That makes no sense.

I know the aliens masquerading as Egyptian gods in the show were symbiotes that took control of various species. The writers of the movie may not have developed a clear scientific explanation of how the transfer of the aliens' minds/bodies would take place. If advanced civilizations could develop teleportation devices, a device to transfer a being's mind/body to a host could be possible. Some fans speculated that the prior host for Ra was another species of alien so that might be why his prior/true form appeared just before the final explosion. The visual of the alien in the final scene may be a glimpse into Ra's soul or true self instead of an actual transformation.

I'm not familiar with the show, but did read something like that link you posted before. That Ra's species was sorta retconned into a smaller creature (Goa'uld is it?), which males a hell of a lot more sense than a symbiote the same size as it's host.

I hear what you're saying and that makes sense. He's not transforming, but rather we're seeing how he'd look had he not disguised himself as a human. I get that. It doesn't explain how the whole transformation process works, but I agree with you that's what we're seeing in that scene.
