So Picard hauled Kirk's dead weight to the top of the rock formation...?

Every time I see that scene at the end, I always overwrite the writer's decision and just assume Picard made a very nice memorial for Kirk and that Kirk's body itself was beamed onto the rescue ships (or taken aboard a shuttle) to be properly buried back home.

Picard extracting Kirk's body from the weight of that bridge, then lugging Kirk's heavy body up to the top of a rock formation, and then finally lugging up each heavy stone one by one to create a pile that would essentially crush Kirk's body into a bloody pulp at any rate, just seemed kind of ... unbelievable (considering this is a science fiction movie, weird, right?).

the reality is the original shot ending was soran shooting kirk in the back on top of the rock formation, then he dies in picards arms after picard shoots soran dead .. idk why when they reshot the ending they didnt alter kirks burial so it was at the base of the mountain.. as it was virtually everyone came out the theatre scratching their head asking each other 'why did picard lug kirks body up that mountain to bury him?' (along with a bunch of other stuff like 'why did picard choose that wildly inappriopate moment to go back to when leaving the nexus?'..and 'i guess now we know why nimoy didnt want to be in it')

He carried him up piece by piece.

I think so. He used a phaser to cut Kirk into pieces that could be easily carried.

Picard is VERY fit. And hadn't had his weight-lifting workout that morning.
