Do buses go on the freeway?

I don't think they do.

Of course buses go on freeways. Why wouldn't they?

reply

Well I live in Maryland. In Maryland they don't, because they can't pick up passengers from the highway.

Buses do go on the freeway. Busses are orginaized hierarchical in that local busses run loops in a local area like groups of neighborhoods with one or two stops being a regional stop. Then a regional buss shows up and moves along the highways connecting to other regions. If you want to go across town here in san antonio you end up getting on at your local buss stop eventually travel to an "Express bus stop"(For the regional busses) then an express bus shows up and takes you via the highway to a region you intend to go to. Then poof your waiting for a local bus in that region to take you the last few miles or so.

San Antonio bus routes suck but even they connect via highways

Could be because in a number of places it became illegal for buses to go on the freeway after this movie came out. They wanted to prevent a Howard Payne-type situation with this law... somehow.

Jokes obviously :P

I can't imagine buses being banned from the highway. Buses are like the ultimate carpool and most major cites have higways with bus/carpool only lanes.

I was going to say, if that were the case then Greyhound would be out of business. They practically thrive on transporting people to major locations over hundreds of miles depending on the destination. That would really suck for them if it were true, lol.

reply

Yes. Many freeways even have bus-only lanes.

I've observed city bus routes in a central Texas city that did indeed get onto the freeway for part of the journey, yes, and then exited again back into neighborhood territory.
