Ortiz trying to play "HERO" does MORE harm than good

A lot of the fault in this movie goes toward that Ortiz dude. If he would have just let Jack do his job talking to the Latino kid, reasoning with him to put the gun down, EVERYTHING would have gone MORE smoothly, but NO! This JERK had to play "hero" and wrestle the kid to the ground, causing the gun to accidentally go off and shoot the bus driver and as a result forcing Jack to have to negotiate with the stubborn Howard Payne in getting the injured busdriver to medical attention, forcing an unexperienced bus driver Annie to drive and then eventually causing the bomb to go off and killing that other lady. Was it worth trying to play "HERO"? 

It wasn't Ortiz who wrestled the guy to the ground, it was the black passenger.

No, I believe it was Ortiz...

@reckless_life Ortiz was the black passenger.

Way to go, Ortiz. Way to go.

Exactly!

True, but I appreciate the inclusion of this, as it shows that you likely would have someone trying to play the hero in that situation. He only had good intentions afterall. Also, it works against the peril these people were really in, in comparison to a man threatening to shoot someone on a bus.
I also liked the inclusion of the shooter in this film, I think it was a clever touch.

My beef was that the issue of Ortiz doing the damage playing hero was never brought up in the movie and they just went along like it wasn't really that big of a deal...

So true! And he was a jerk with an attitude at that!

Raise the thrilling stakes and keep the "Speedy" situations going? Yes, I would say it was worth it. Also, Annie driving the bus is one of the best things about the movie.

If not Ortiz, then someone else in this peril would have done the same thing. His character amuses me more than annoys.

one million percent agree with you

He was a gigantic jerk.
