R vs. PG-13-rated versions

I bought a VHS from a video store that was going out of business (as most are now, *Sigh!*) and the from cover says that it's rated R. I removed the tape to watch it today, but the tape itself says "PG-13-Rated Version". Is it still worth watching? What would I be missing it I watched this version?
