This movie is bad and it's concerning that many consider it to be among the greatest of all time
I'm not trying to troll or be a contrarian. I've held in this opinion for 10 years without expressing it. No longer ๐

It's not the greatest movie of all time. It's the most overrated movie of all time. It's crazy.
At least, for some context, list some reasons why you find it bad. List a few movies that you find good.
This way we have an understanding of where youโre coming from. Not saying youโre not entitled to your opinion. I myself find many popular movies bad. But give somethings to go on so we can have an open dialogue.
IMDb's Top 250 isn't about the greatest films, it's about the ones that the most people find pleasing with the smallest ration of ones that people find offensive or at least shitty. I'd say it's my favorite prison film (with Escape from Alcatraz right behind it). It's a well packaged product with really solid acting and a nicely polished story. Most people want that in their life and that's ultimately what drives most peoples' choices in entertainment.
Even so, it's not the greatest film of all time. I can name dozens of films that are better crafted but I can also show you entire demographics that are likely turned off by the same films. The Shawshank Redemption has such a wide appeal that it'd be hard to top.
