Why do people care if it's number 1?

It is only a very small number of small-minded people who come to this board ever so often to complain that it is rated 1st on IMDb. IT MAKES NO DIFFERENCE. But for some of them it seems to.

Because it's seriously one of the best movies I've ever seen.

Ratings and reviews are always a joke in general. Sure it can be a good barometer, but ultimately, we should all have enough wherewithal to draw our own opinions. That's why it's dumb to have gatekeeping discourse "This one's the best in the series and if you think otherwise you're dumb." Just judge for yourself. Most movies are enjoyable if you just allow yourself to enjoy it. Instead of comparing and insulting, we should simply have conversations.

Because this movie isn’t rated #1 anywhere else, and it’s been speculated for decades that fanboys made thousands of accounts to rig that #1, same with The Dark Knight. Not sure if that’s true but it’s interesting. Basically nowhere else is Shawshank considered the best film of all time. It’s a great film but cmon. Seems like none of you can handle someone elses opinions.
