The Shadow:Reborn

hey eveyone I've been working on a screenplay for a TV update of The Shadow. The show would be about a man named David L. Cranston. David is 25-30 years of age and for the last few years has been fighting in the middle east. During a mission thats goes wrong his team are ambushed and suddenly David suddenly is able to turns himself invisable and to control the insurgents minds. David is a hero but his fame is cut short when he discovers that his father has died. He comes back to New York and there he discovers his father left him a tape. On the tape he discovers that David's Grandfather Lamont had an abilty called "Clouding" which allowed him to seem invisable to his enemies and he could also push thoughts and visions into their heads. David's grandfather used his abilty to fight crime as a masekd hero named "The Shadow" for 15 years he protected the city from crime until his Death. David's father tells him the ability skipped a generation and now he has it.

David also discovers his grandfathers secret hideout and he finds the orginal Shadow costume. As David tries to take all that he has learned about his family in his girlfriend is attacked after coming home from work and she is left in a coma. After that David re-designs his grandathers costume and goes out onto the street of New york and trys to find out who attacked his girlfriend. So far I only have about a two hours written for the pilot. His costume would be very reminiscent of the old school costume. Now he would have a red half-balaciava and a kevlar vest and a shoulder holster that holds two silver automatic 45's. Also he would wear a gothic type black long coat. I really love the shadow. The Shadow has become a timeless chracter. I know alot of people will hate this idea but I think TV needs a new kick ass hero. Since shows like Heroes and Lost are hits and Movies like The Dark Knight and Watchmen are still fresh in peoples minds I think the time is right for "The Shadow: Reborn. Tell me what you think.

I agree with you on two counts. #1, It is time for another Shadow movie. #2, I hate your idea (no offense meant).

To me, part of the allure of The Shadow is the 1930s/40s time period. Removing that and updating to today's time frame ruins the whole thing for me. I am more in favor of The Shadow Returns instead of The Shadow Reborn.

Just one thing to point out...

The ability to cloud men's minds is not a "super-power" that is inherited. If memory serves correctly, Lamont Cranston learned the ability from a Tibetan monk.

I wish you luck on your screenplay.

For a TV show, this would be flawless. As a movie, i don't know. People would want to see a Frank Miller/Quentin Tarantino/Robert Rodriguez type reboot of the Lamont Cranston Shadow if they ever did another movie. However, I was a pretty big fan of the Alec Baldwin version of the Shadow. If the show you were mentioning was on TV, i'd totally watch it. Good idea, man.
