Don't know exactly what they have in mind with this group of people operating as the Shadow thing, but I really hope they don't screw this one up.

I'm guessing (hoping) they mean this figuratively.
The world will look up and shout "save us!" And I'll whisper "no."
They're likely alluding to Lamont's multiple disguises and identities, like from the pulps.

They're likely alluding to Lamont's multiple disguises and identities, like from the pulps ... Actually, if you read the article on wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Shadow#Background, it explains that in the early days, The Shadow's identity was Kent Allard and that he had many aliases. Lamont Cranston was NOT really The Shadow, rather, Cranston was one of The Shadow's aliases he used when necessary (along with Henry Arnaud and Isaac Twambley). Give the article a read, it's interesting. It even hints that The Shadow may be disfigured or that he has no face at all. There's quite a bit that could be done with this film and I hope that Raimi succeeds!
Baldwin's film is entertaining, but it barely scratches the surface of The Shadow's source material, choosing instead to be a mishmash of various well known elements. That's OK, but it can be so much more.
Speaking of Raimi, he was up to direct the movie "The Shadow" back in the day but something happened so he never did it. Instead, he made "Darkman"....disfigured vigilante, master of disguise, coincidence....NAAHHHH haha
