One of the few that is in dire need of a remake
I hated this movie. Most of the people I've seen on here seem to have seen this movie when they were kids, so I can understand why they might like this movie so much because things are just a lot easier to enjoy and idolize when you're a child. I too was a child when I was first introduced to The Shadow, but it wasn't through this horrible movie. My grandmother had a recording of an episode of the original radio drama, and I always loved listening to that. Since then I have been fascinated with The Shadow. His costume, his powers, everything about him just implies mystery and awesomeness. Since this was the only movie that featured The Shadow I, of course, had to check it out.
I don't understand why you would enjoy this film. Sure it might be visually appealing to a certain extent, but everything else sucks. This is one of those movies that tried to take advantage of CGI way too early, before it could be perfected. As a result, the CGI looks like *beep* On top of that, quite a bit of the CGI just seems unnecessary. It's like they threw it in there for the sake of the movie having special effects.
As for Alec Baldwin, personally I think they just cast him in the starring role just to get people into theaters. I grew up listening to the voice from the radio drama so obviously that's what I'm going to expect from the movie. Of course if it's freaking Alec Baldwin as The Shadow I'm not going to get that am I? On top of that, Alec Baldwin seems very out of place as The Shadow. I just can't believe that he's The Shadow because I expect him to be an angry cop or a vile gangster, never a super-hero.
Oh and the writing. Ugh the writing! Here's a brilliant idea, let's throw in a bunch of stupid jokes and a man who... you guessed it..... wants to take over the world. OF COURSE!!! Sorry I watch a little too much Nostalgia Critic I must admit. But honestly the writing job for this movie is very mechanical, formulaic even. I feel like I've seen this movie so many times but under many different titles. It's boring. Very very boring. For once I would like to see an original take on the franchise, not some Hollywood *beep*
I'm sure there are many who will agree that this franchise really needs a serious remake. Better it be an independent film so it's not subject to becoming yet another Hollywood product like this disaster was.
