Any chance of a blu ray of this film coming out soon? I've always held off on the DVD because of the pan and scan BS they released.
shareI'm a bit surprised that Universal hasn't released on yet. The movie has performed well for the studio on home video in the past (a direct to video sequel was under serious consideration for a while even) it was even among Universal's early DVD releases.

I know your pain that is one of the reasons I have not given up my laser disc player. The Shadow in ntsc wide screen with DTS is still better than the pan-scan version that is on dvd. Use the zoom on the HD Tv and it looks preety good.

It's available on Netflix Instant, just watched it the other night. It's supposedly an HD stream but I can't be 100 certain, though it did look pretty great. Also, it was formatted 16:9 so it filled my whole screen with no letter/pillarboxing at all. While it's not an "official" HD release, it might help ease the pain while we wait for the blu-ray to make its debut. :)
shareThe film is available in full 1080p widescreen from iTunes. I just bought it today for $14.99. The price is a little steep, but I eventually felt it was worthwhile. I haven't watched it yet, but I can't wait to! It's definitely one of my favorite movies, and I haven't enjoyed it in years due to the pan-and-scan releases. Amazon Instant Video also has the HD version for the same price. Both have the standard definition version for under $10.
I imagine they might eventually put out a Blu Ray Disc release, but you can never be certain.

Is it possible to buy the HD version from amazon and then burn it to a DVD and will it look any better then the standard DVD on an HDTV?? i mean damn, the DVD sucks even for a regular TV, on an HDTV its just horrendous. even if they release a bluray that isnt "the best", ANYTHING will look better then the DVD.

Yeah. More than once I browse what catalog title is coming to Blu-Ray and go yawn, but every once and awhile I go sweet.

shareThere are actually two different blu-ray editions of The Shadow coming out in 2013. Shout! Factory is working on a special edition of the film, which will be out later in the year.

I just bought the bluray off amazon (tired of store searching) and I am very PLEASED with the bluray presentation. sure no extras, not that im dieing to have any that much, just the movie is enough for me. not disappointed! if they in fact do release a loaded movie with extras, sure ill think about doube dipping but its not very important to me.

I bought the Pan & Scan DVD a long time ago. I think i will probably buy the Blu-Ray to get a Wide-Screen Version.

Found out that the Scream Factory disc is a new transfer and not the one used in the Universal Blu-Ray.

Blu Ray is out. I bought it on Amazon and am looking at it now. Transfer looks decent. probably the master was not completely pristine but don't think you will be very disappointed
