Just caught this on Encore in HD...not bad...
This was a smart movie in many ways, which is to be expected of an Albert Brooks film. This guy doesn't do nearly enough work. I love just about everything he does. That said, this film felt unfinished at the end and a bit shallow. They skimmed the surface of the kid's abusive background when they should have delved into it a bit more. Somehow, the whole situation felt totally unresolved. It's easy to understand they wanted to keep the focus on the fantasy aspects of the baseball, but really why bother teasing us with this deeper context if you're not going to deliver on it? Overall, I'd give this film a solid 6 out of 10. It could have been much more.
