I was watching this movie on TV just now and I noticed something. Steve Nebraska, pitching for the Yankees, had long hair. Anyone who knows anything about the Yankees know that would never happen. It's a known fact that George Steinbrenner would make Steve cut his hair before he signs a contract. Steinbrenner has rules that all Yankee players and coaches need to be clean shaven and have their hair cut above the collar.

If you can't spot the sucker in the first half hour at the table, then you ARE the sucker.

Bob Costas also mentioned that it was 81 pitches, 81 strikes before Ozzie even stepped up to the plate.

How about the fact that Ozzie Smith had "5 postseason Homeruns" .... If Ozzie had 5 postseason homeruns back in the 90's he would be batting in the top 3.... There is no way he would have been 9th in the lineup. Since to be the 27th straight out he would have been in the 9 spot.

He was still making the statement about how Nebraska was one strikeout away from a perfect game... 27 batters, 27 outs... 81 pitches, 81 strikes. He was *not* saying what the current count was.

Another goof is when Nebraska bats, anyone who knows anything about baseball it's that the American League (Yankees are in) pitchers don't bat, unless an AL team is playing away to a NL team. And in the movie he plays in Yankee stadium.

The Designated Hitter is optional in the AL. If the team wants their pitcher to hit, he still can.

that may be true, but nothing in the rules says that a pitcher can't DH for himself if he's that good.

I would just like to point out that the catcher at the beginning of the game was left handed. What? Ive watched alot of ball games college, high school, major leagues, farm ball and i dont think ive seen a south paw catcher once.

Babe Ruth, played pitcher, catcher and left field. Team usa softball catcher is a lefty as well.

Babe Ruth only played catcher in high school. He started pitching at age 15. Interestingly, the school didn't have a glove for a lefty catcher, so he had to catch with his throwing hand, remove the glove and then throw the ball with the same hand. Ruth's arm was so good that he had a better percentage for catching base stealers than most right-handed catchers.

Dale Long, who played catcher for several years for the Pittsburgh Pirates, was left handed.

In fact, the rules state explicitly that the pitcher cannot DH for himself. The pitcher can start in the batting lineup, in which case the team may not use the DH for the game.

when bob costas is talking about 81 pitches and 27 up 27 down, hes not saying thats what point they are in the game, hes saying that nebraska is going for the perfect game with all strike outs

the biggest goof in the movie is that it is impossible to throw a strike every single pitch of the game, and strike out every batter you face. Even if you threw 110 mph and had a sick curve and a johan santana changeup, major league batters would still either put the ball in play a couple of times, or the pitcher would eventually throw at least one ball. I know it's just a movie but if your representing the game of baseball it has to be somewhat realistic, any baseball fan who watches this would say the same.

another big goof is that the yankees win 2-0 and no what what steve would bat 3 times and everytime he comes up they make it clear that he hit a monster homerun so the score should have been at least 3-0

He batted 9th and had the only 2 hits in the game. If no one walked and since the Yankees were at home, they would not have to bat in the 9th inning. He would have been the first to bat in the bottom of the 9th

Except, if the team thought he was a good enough hitter to be used in place of the DH, it's likely he wouldn't be hitting ninth

well my point is that in the early 90's Steinbrenner may not have had the same "clean-cut" rules that he has today. Look at Chuch Knoublauch he was scruffy sometimes. And that is what I meant.
