Why wasn't Leslie in the movie?
Come to think of it, I think I recall reading a magazine preview back then that said Leslie, not Alex, would be in the movie.

If you watch the part of the wedding where Alex and Mike are talking to Mr. Belding, there is a girl sitting right next to Mr. Belding and she is blonde and is wearing dark sunglasses. She looks very similar to the actress who plays Leslie (it's not her though). I wonder if that is coincidence or if the directors put her there to look like Leslie so we believe she was in attendance (and we just don't see her actually talking to Zack and Kelly...).
