Hot chocolate
Is there an official recipe for the hot chocolate used in this film? It always looks like best hot chocolate ever and so rich, thick and creamy.

shareNo official recipe, but you can go nuts with this if you want, including adding rum or brandy.
Here's what I have:
6 cups whole milk
1/3 cup sugar
1/3 cup Dutched cocoa powder (I like Hershey's actually)
2/3 cup bittersweet morsels (don't use Hershey's)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
Pretty much just put everything except the morsels in a saucepan and medium heat and whisk constantly. Once the powder dissolves, remove the pan from the stove and add the chocolate morsels and whisk until full integrated. If you want it really really thick, add 1/2 tsp of "clear jel" which is a modified food starch. I use it for thickening hot foods and gravies. Stir that in right before pulling the pan from the stove and before adding the chocolate. There's an instant variety of clear jel that I use to stabilize whipped cream, and if you use enough of it, turns whipped cream into frosting that won't "break".
You can eliminate the clear jel and use "half and half" instead of the whole milk.
That sounds delicious! Thanks for the recipe! Definitely would be nice to make this holiday season.
