What if Tom had fought back?

When Wade beats the crap out of him early on he makes no attempt to fight back. What if he had? Would Wade have just pulled the gun and shot him? I always took it that he didn't fight back because he had just been told that Wade had a gun.

Good question.

Kevin Bacon was good as Wade.

I haven't seen this film in years but I recall Wade had a scary badass persona. It was under the surface most of the time and he had the superficial charm of a sociopath. Tom saw this and was afraid of him.

If I was Tom I might (I say "might") have taken the beating. Then I would have looked for a weapon secretly- a thick tree branch or something I could knock him senseless with from behind with later.

While he was on the ground I would search him and find the handgun.

Terry was simple-minded and not violent. A follower. He would be easy to control. Then I would take Gail and Roarke and leave as quickly as possible. As soon as we were able I would make contact with the authorities.

Wade was cautious though as they had committed robbery and were wanted by the police. Maybe I would have fought back. It would be a decision I would have to make in a second or two.

Tough decision.
