Easy chances of getting away

I have come across a few occasions in the movie where they could of easily got away. Like when Tom and Gail are planning to get away and they have to go grab Roarke. He could of easily just pulled him into the boat without making a fuss about it. There were a few more instances too.

He tried to grab Roarke but Roarke was being a little prick.

Plus, watching this again last night, they couldn't have anticipated Roarke would actually try to take off like that. The dad is focused on getting the reel out of the way at first, and then is surprised Roarke actually tries to get away from him, which is not unrealistic.
