Does anyone know any movies just like this one....
Where a family or a person is out camping and they get taken hostage??

shareThere are some loose parallels with The River of No Return,
shareIsn't that an old western made in the 50's with Robert Mitchum. I used to work for a lady who loved old westerns and I've seen this movie.
Anyone have anything much newer than the 50's. Maybe something from at least between the 70's-2000's??
Deliverance maybe, though they're friends, rather than a family. And I always feel there are loose parallels in Cliffhanger.

- Quint, Jaws.
This movie reminded me a lot of Dead Calm. Nicole Kidman and Sam Neil are on a boat when Billy Zane goes completely nuts, much like Kevin Bacon in this movie. If you want a movie like this, I suggest you check that one out!
And can't believe no one mentioned Shoot to Kill (aka Deadly Pursuit) with Kirstie Alley, Tom Berenger and Sidney Poitier.
Great movie! If you like The River Wild this is definitely for you!

I actually laughed a little when Kevin Bacon made his appearance in the film. I immediately thought of "White Water Summer". It even has Bacon in that one as well. There were definitely some similarities.

It's not really a western. Even though it was made in the 50's it's still a great action packed movie. Alot of the scenes from River Wild were taken from River of No Return. I actually like River of No Return better, but both are great movies.
in terms of the similarity it is a lot like the movie "FEAR" with Mark Wahlberg, Reese Witherspoon, and William Peterson. A nice family is befriended by a strange character that is nice at first, but gives us little suspicions that turns into a fight for their life. Also both families have a dog. It doesn't really take place in the wild though like the River Wild.
sharethe poster TonyHu said it best with Deliverance and Cliffhanger... rigght on the muh-nnay! I think Training Day (2001) and maybe even Swiss Family Robinson (from like the 60s) is kind of close by. Panic Room with Jodie Foster could work as well. One thing for sure - the river wild is hands down the best whitewater rafting movie EVER made!
