Kid-A-Pult ?

Just wondering, how did the kid-a-pult stunt work? I'm guessing they just used some wires to pull the seat up the incline of the launcher, then the kids got off. Then some stunt doubles jumped off a tower on to a landing pad. Anyone know how close I am?

Man, I would kill to have a working Kid-A-Pult, and while I don't think the local laws would mind me killing myself with one, renting it out for others to possibly kill themselves might be a little off limits. I just don't see them letting me use it as a carnival ride, what with hurtling little kids through the air without safety wires or anything. Just imagine if you missed the pad...

I hope you've gotten help from your psychiatrist in the ensuing months.

The "kid-a-pult" is actually a real working air-powered catapult. It was originally designed for a stunt where a stuntman would be launched from a bridge to a net that was being towed behind an airplane. After several attempts, the stuntman kept getting to the net feet first and couldn't grab the net with his hands which resulted in him missing the net and falling into the gorge below the bridge. He would then pull a parachute to land safely at the bottom. The stunt was eventually called off.

Promise me, no matter how hopeless things get, keep on trying, OK? Keep coming chin-up, OK?
