so true. Read that on one of the posts, did anyone like him? I seriously didn't see a part of this movie where it showed he actually 'loved' her and that it was totally different from the other women he slept with. He just treated her like c r A p like everyone else...

Troy was cruel & cold (and in my opinion ugly & a chronic mouth-breather, but that's beside the point!) She was stupid to pick him. He never treated her with kindness.
Stiller's character showed he cared, was a responsible guy, and even when her tapes got butchered, he said he'd take her to NY and pitch it there anyway she wanted to show it. He was good to her and I know she ended up being miserable & breaking up with Troy because he was horrible to her.

Great summary though. Completely agree with the sentiments that Troy was a self-important and entitled low-life. In reality, Michael wins much more at life. I think (and hope) most people come away from the movie realising this read-between-the-lines message.
I think he did love her in his own way. Some people treat people they love like that because that is just the type of person they are. He was a rude, pretentious and quite nasty person though. Michael had his flaws but always meant well.
She made a bad choice but I guess she was young and stupid.
