One of the Best American movies ever....the most underated...

Why is this film not in the top then of American cinema? Seriously. This film has to be one of the most elegant, classiest and suspenseful films I have ever seen. The tension is so subtle, not thrust at you like most films today and the cast was brilliant. Tutturro needed an Oscar nomination.

This film is truly underrated.

I would agree. "Quiz Show" is a magnificent motion picture. While Robert Redford doesn't make very many films, he certainly makes up for quantity with quality. This film came on the heels of "A River Runs Through It" another unsung masterpiece by Redford. Both take the viewer back beautifully to another time and place, each "painting" a poignant and profound picture that captures the essence of the American experience on a personal level. The themes in each (much like Ordinary People)are timeless and hence just as important today as they were when the stories took place. I thought your assessment of "Quiz Show" was excellent. If anyone hasn't seen either of these films, I highly recommend you do so. These 2 films are certainly the best of the 90's and should rank among the best of all time.

Definately one of the best movies ever. Direction, acting, set design, wardrobe, and most importantly writing, so good. I love the writing/ dialogue, its smart without being over clever like an Aaron Sorkin project, plus its about smart well educated people so it makes sense that the dialogue would be great, not like a Kevin Smith movie where he has uneducated shclubs speaking eloquantly. It is pitch perfect in every way. I think it's problem is it came out in '94, the year of Gump, Pulp Fiction, and Shawshank, not to mention a bunch of other solid movies. Also, among all the great things about this movie, is Martin Scorcese, a little cameo, and he nails it.

I honestly didn't expect it to be that good, but it was brilliant and really perfect, not for a single minute did it let go of the tension and it never stopped being interesting, how Forrest Gump beat this is still a mystery to me. Also Turturro and especially Ralph Fiennes deserved some Oscars, I think it's Fiennes best performance, even better than Schindler's List or The English Patient, he was absolutely amazing!

I was in high school when QUIZ SHOW first came out, and I remember it being popular then. Since that time I think it's fallen into semi-obscurity, which is a huge shame. It should be much better known than it is now. I'd agree that it's one of the greatest American movies of the last 25 years.

I agree, this was a great film on many levels. Flawlessly crafted, the nuances about the differing social sets of the time are so authentic. This film nails it on all counts, screenplay, casting, acting, etc. This should be shown in film classes. I loved it then and I love it now. I could put this in my top 50 all-time American films, no problem.

If it came out today it would sweep Oscars, but in 1994 it was overshadowed by some of the heavyweight all-time great films, Forrest Gump, Shawshank, Pulp Fiction, Hoop Dreams (recently voted the greatest Documentary of all-time). Don't get me wrong, I think Quiz Show was as good as any of those. The 90s were a great time in American film. I long for those days...sigh.

It's a brilliant movie, no question! The tension is so real, it is almost like reliving the period over again! One of my favorite movies of all time. How "Forrest Dump" beat this is ridiculous!

Just watched it again tonight, and I completely agree. If Quiz Show hadn't been released in '94, it could have easily won (at least) best picture and screenplay.
A great movie up and down...just had the misfortune of coming out against a few other arguably great movies the same year. Funny thing is that the winner (Forrest Gump) was probably the LEAST deserving. If not Quiz Show, then Shawshank Redemption for sure, then Pulp Fiction.

Reminiscent of ROCKY beating NETWORK and ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN.
